conranSelfridgesFurniture and design retailer The Conran Shop is preparing to open its third UK store with a new concession inside Selfridges London.

The retailer has two other UK stores — both in London at nearby Marylebone and to the west of the city in Chelsea — as well as a sizeable online business.

Its new shop abuts the Muji concession and is approximately 4,000sqft in size. It will open in the middle of September.

Situated on the lower ground floor at Selfridges Oxford Street, The Conran Shop concession will show an edited selection of furniture, decorative accents and gift food from its main larger stores.

Its launch means it will be one of a select number of brands selling furniture within Selfridges, with BoConcept having recently closed its own concession within the store.

Besides the UK, The Conran Shop has a store in Paris and half a dozen more in Japan. New accounts for its UK business — for the year to end March — show its retail business here has been starting to turn around.

It narrowed its underlying EBITDA deficit to £280k (2014: £1.6m) as turnover increased 2 per cent to £19.7m. Besides its UK stores, sales also include its online business and its Conran Shop Contracts business, which sells primarily to corporate customers. It doesn’t includes its overseas furniture shops.

Sales and margins since March have each made further gains, The Conran Shop added. Parent company Conran Holdings is yet to file 2014–15 numbers.
