nextUpholsteryProductionGeneral merchandise retailer Next will start manufacturing sofas in Yorkshire later this year and is currently recruiting for upholstery production management.

In a statement, Next said it will open a manufacturing facility in Armthorpe in August, and that 50 people would be initially employed in sofa production.

The plan is part of a new 600,000sqft warehouse facility, which will be located adjacent to Next’s current site on West Moor Lane.

“Initially there will be approximately 50 people employed in the sofa manufacturing team although Next expects this to grow over the next few years as production volumes increase,” the statement said.

It didn’t say if it will cooperate with a third-party with the running of the factory, though it does plan to hire its own management for the site.

The retailer is currently recruiting for a technical production manager with experience of upholstery manufacturing and excellent technical knowledge of upholstered and home product, based at its Doncaster facility.
