Upholstery chain DFS says it has appointed Andy Vaughan-Jones as sole buying director following the departure of Gary Pitchford last month. It also said FD Bill Barnes is to retire.

Mr Vaughan-Jones and Mr Pitchford had previously both held the title of buying director, with responsibility for all buying and merchandising decisions.

In a statement, DFS said: “As part of a plan to strengthen the commercial team, the buying director role has now been split into two, with a buying director and a merchandising director.

“Andy Vaughan-Jones has now been appointed as sole Buying Director with responsibility for the sourcing and cost of our product range, management of our supplier base and in bound supply.”

DFS added that a new merchandising director will be recruited externally with responsibility for range selection and range management as well as its pricing and promotional programme.

Separately, its said finance director Bill Barnes has decided to retire in the summer after almost 13 years with the group.

Nicola Bancroft, who is currently commercial finance director, will become chief financial officer and an executive director from 1 August 2016.  “Bill and Nicola have worked closely together for over three years and will complete a smooth handover of responsibilities over the next six months,” DFS said.
