Furniture manufacturer and distributor Devonshire achieved double-digit growth for a second successive year as it posted its highest sales since 2011 in the year to end July.

2014–15 sales reached £15.5m, up 11.8 per cent for the Bideford company, which produces pine furniture as well as selling other species including oak and painted cabinet ranges.

It was the privately owned company’s strongest sales since 2010–11, when its top line totalled £17.2m. Devonshire sells through over 100 retailers nationwide as well as having a direct sales channel on its website, with orders assigned to the nearest stockist.

Gross margin declined 90 basis points to 23.9 per cent with pre-tax profit falling 16 per cent to £1.1m. Holding company Devonshire Pine Holdings — incorporated midway through 2013 — recorded group profit before tax of £1.3m for the latest period.

Year-end cash for the business, which has no debt, declined to £698,148 (2014: £889,247).
