Bed-in-a-box brand Leesa is to expand its mattress business into Canada, adding to its existing customer base in the UK and US.

The company, whose UK mattresses are produced and packed by a third party supplier in the North of England, says it generated sales of $30m (£20.7m) last year in its two launch markets.

CEO David Wolfe said Canada was a logical next step  because “we’ve had a close connection [to the country] since we chose Ottawa-based Shopify as our ecommerce platform in 2015.”

Online customers constantly asking whether we ship there, he added.

Leesa is one of a host of emerging brands selling foam mattresses shipped in swish packaging direct to consumers, with mainstream mattress and bed companies beginning to enter the market (more next week).
