dunelmCoRising furniture sales — up nearly two-thirds on the previous year — contributed to strong growth at national chain Dunelm in the 26 weeks to 27th December.

The out-of-town home retailer said half year revenue climbed 14 per cent to £406.4m, buoyed by it opening six new superstores and relocating another. It now has 142 stores.

Underlying like-for-like store sales rose 3.5 per cent, though that figures rises to +6.2 per cent including growth in its online home delivery business.

Its furniture category was a standout performer, rising 60 per cent to exceed £20m for the half. Dunelm hasn’t habitually disclosed the top line value of its furniture business.

Dunelm also said its longstanding finance director David Stead was to retire in the autumn of this year, adding that the process to identify his successor was now under way.
