Furniture manufacturers’ turnover topped £8bn in 2015 as producers ended the year on a high, according to new Government figures.

The Office for National Statistics’ Turnover and Orders in Production and Service Industries data series recorded 4.6 per cent annual growth in the furniture sector last year.

Its data encompasses all forms of furniture, for both residential consumption and contract, including areas such a car and aeroplane seats.

The annualised figures were compiled by The Furnishing Report from the December ONS dataset, which showed a 7.1 per cent rise in output to £598.4m. That included a rise of 34 per cent in export turnover to £63.9m and a 4.5 per cent rise in goods for UK consumption.
