Organisers of the Maison et Objet design fair said November’s terror attacks in Paris impacted foreign attendance, but overall visitor numbers near-matched the 2015 total.

The interiors event — held last month — attracted 76,417 people from 143 countries, down 2.3 per cent on the previous edition.

Overseas attendance was down overall, but still represented 48 per cent of the total visitor makeup, with rises in the numbers visiting from Belgium, up 14pc, and Spain and Belgium, which were both up in low single-digit percentages.

There were 2,978 exhibitors, down 6.8 per cent on the previous year. 55 per cent of those showing hailed from outside of France.
