Julian Charles brand-owner Rectella bounced back to profit in 2014–15 as store expansion helped galvanise sales.

The Manchester based soft furnishings wholesaler and retailer said turnover increased by 10.2 per cent to £17.1m in the year to end April, driven by 60 store openings and underlying retail sales growth.

Management said its expansion, together with improvements in product offering, enhanced back office operations and strengthened management capability, had translated into a significant bottom line turnaround.

Rectella, owned by the Greibach family, made £21,666 at the pre-tax line having lost £2.4m the previous year.

The business generated a net £1.2m cash from operations, net capital expenditure totalled £861,011, while £884,893 cash was introduced through short-term and director loans.

Year-end cash increased to £1.8m (2014: £590,849).
