Memory foam pioneer Tempur has launched mattresses featuring springs for the first time, but its UK md says there are no plans to launch the line here.

Tempur — part of the Tempur Sealy International beds conglomerate — launched its hybrid Tempur-Flex collection at the Las Vegas Market in the US earlier this month.

The Tempur-Flex programme is designed to appeal to consumers used to the familiar “slightly springy” feel they know from beds they’ve always slept on, Tempur said in a press release.

It combines a faster-responding version of its proprietary memory foam material with a new layer made with “innovative precision coils” — or springs — for support that moves with you.

"Extensive research has shown us that a good number of consumers are very interested in the personalised comfort of Tempur, but also seek the more 'familiar feel' that comes with faster-responding support," said Patrice Varni, Senior Vice President of Tempur Sealy Brand Marketing.

Jacqui Stefanov is md of Tempur UK, which last year registered record sales of £31.8m*. She told the Furnishing Report that Tempur UK doesn’t have any plans in the pipeline to launch a hybrid foam/innerspring product.”
