Sales of home merchandise fell for a seventh straight week at John Lewis with the retailer citing the continued hot weather and the World Cup as drags on demand.

Home sales declined 11 percent for the department store chain in the seven days to July 14, its worst performing category.

Fashion missed by 3.5 percent and electricals and home technology by 4.6 percent as the retailer's total sales for last week dropped to £81.1 million, down 6.2 percent year-on-year.
