Falling Belgian imports were behind the drop
Imports of carpets declined in May on the back of weaker figures from Belgium, Britain's biggest source of foreign-made carpets.

The May total fell 2.1 percent to £73.4 million and has now fallen in each of the past three reported months, according to HMRC data compiled by The Furnishing Report.

Belgian imports were down 9.1 percent to £23.5 million for the month and are now down 15 percent to £111.5 million for the year-to-date (Jan–May).

Carpet imports from the Netherlands, the second largest source, fell by a softer 1.5 percent year-on-year to £17.3 million in May but remain 10 percent higher at £89.7 million for the year so far.
