Valley Carpets, one of the UK's largest privately-owned flooring wholesalers, grew sales again last year as it readied geographical expansion.

The Erith, Kent headquartered wholesaler built sales by 7.4 percent to £31.6 million in the year to end September 2017.

Valley has now grown sales each year since at least 2008*, more than doubling annual output over the past decade.

Valley is expanding to the East Midlands. In just-filed accounts the company said its new Derby warehouse was on course and would help it expand into new markets.

Profits last year fell 17 percent to £1.77 million, the result of tighter margins on carpets and what it described as the refinement of systems to allow it to expand its geographical market share.

* 2008 was the first year it disclosed turnover in publicly available accounts.
