Manufacturers' prices for mattresses declined 3.1 percent in the year to June
Mattress prices at the factory gate fell for a ninth straight month in June according to figures out yesterday from the Office for National Statistics.

Manufacturers' prices for the category declined 3.1 percent in the year to June, ONS said, as mattresses proved the biggest downward drag on overall furniture producer price inflation.

Wider furniture producer prices remained 3.3 percent higher in the year to June (May: 3.4pc), which was chiefly the result of rising kitchen output costs, up double-digit year-on-year.

Carpet and cabinet price inflation also eased in June, remaining in low single digits, while upholstery manufacturers' price inflation was unchanged compared with May.

The ONS said furniture retail prices were flat in the year to June, having declined 0.1 percent in the year to May.
