Former DFS and Fabb Sofas design director Scott Coggan has been appointed to the same role at Ashley Manor, with his development team from Fabb joining him to bolster the Midlands sofa maker's creative output.

Scott Coggan SmThe arrival of Mr Coggan (right) — together with his six-strong Long Eaton team, where they will continue to be based — doubles Ashley Manor's development capacity in the UK, the Dudley company said in a press release.

"I am beyond excited about this creative partnership," said Mark Smith, CEO of Ashley Manor and its sister brands Alexander & James and AMX Design.

"I have admired Scott throughout our joint climb up the furniture design ladder and feel completely enthused about the chance to combine our ideas and take Ashley Manor to the next level of of commercial creativity," he added.

Mr Smith, former design director and co-founder of AMX and Alexander & James, became group CEO following the semi-retirement of David Lee (see related).

Scott Coggan was named design director at Buoyant Upholstery aged 26 and was instrumental in the turn-of-the-century growth of the Lancashire sofa maker.

Later becoming design director at DFS and then Fabb Sofas, he is arguably the best-known designer of upholstery for the British retail sector.

He said: "My passion for the sector is unwavering, I can see plenty of opportunities in this current economic climate to wow customers with unbelievable added value detail, a fresh and modern flamboyance and newness. Excited for the next chapter."
