lucasAylesburyPrivately owned furniture retailer Stokers is expanding its store network with the addition of one of Britain’s largest single-site furniture businesses.

The Furnishing Report understands that the Lucas Furniture store in Aylesbury is now a part of the Stokers group, headquartered in Southport.

Terms of the agreement have not yet been disclosed and all parties — including the shareholders of both businesses — declined to comment when given the opportunity last week.

Lucas Furniture is a family-owned furniture retailer trading from large warehouse showrooms at Rabans Lane on the outskirts of the Buckinghamshire town.

The business generated revenues north of £7m in the years immediately after the turn of the century, falling to just over £6m in 2008, the last time it provided full disclosure in publicly available accounts. Current annual sales are estimated at £4m–£5m.

Stokers group is one of the country’s largest independent furniture businesses, with its stores generating sales over £31m in 2013–14.

It runs three stores under the Stoker fascia — in Chester, Southport and Ormskirk — as well as others nationwide including Fredmans, Christopher Pratts, Annetts Fine Furniture  and Doorway to Value.
