atlanticShoppingMargins were squeezed but sales continued to gain momentum for online and warehouse furniture and furnishings retailer Atlantic Shopping in 2014.


Revenue climbed 28 per cent to £16.2m for the Birmingham based firm, which sells value furniture such as dining sets, beds and mattresses and bar stools.


Revenue had also risen 28 per cent the previous year from under £10m in 2012.


Sales have been growing rapidly with the 2007 launch of its Internet arm a key catalyst. Overseas markets were also a big driver in 2014, with it selling nearly £3m of kit to overseas customers, up 62 per cent on 2013.


The firm (VN & Britannic Warehouses) is wholly owned by the Laroiya family and has large 85,000sqft premises near the National Indoor Arena in England’s second city.


Gross margin declined 310 basis points to 39.5 per cent, with pre-tax earnings down 30 per cent to £1m as a result. The business generated £1.4m net cash from operations, while year-end cash and equivalents was flat at £1m after tax (£329k) capex (£181k) and dividends (£912k).
