North West soft furnishings vertical Rectella says its business has transformed over the past 12 months as it looks to turnaround losses in 2013–14.

Year to end April 2014 pre-tax losses climbed five-fold to £2.4m for the Manchester based group, during which sales dropped 4.5 per cent to £15.5m and year-end cash declined to £591k (2013: £1.9m).

But, the situation has improved in the period since, the bedding and curtains supplier and retailer said, with Rectella management asserting that after a challenging first half, the group has transformed over the past 12 months.

“A year on we have increased our retail portfolio by 50 per cent from 86 to 128 stores, launched our website — which is trading profitably — established our ERP system, and strengthened management capabilities.”

It didn’t provide any post-April 2014 figures, but added: “Our wholesale business remains an important part of the business model and continues to be profitable; we have a number of opportunities developing which — together with the ongoing growth in retail — will help the group continue to progress and prosper for the future.”
