Regional furniture retail chain Avanti doubled profits last year as it made the most of demand for its fitted kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms.

The privately owned firm made £467k before tax in the year to end December — up from £210k a year earlier — as sales climbed 9 per cent to £9.3m.

Both sales and profits had been down the previous year, with Avanti vowing to embark on a major revamp of its showroom network.

The company trades from 10 stores, nine of which are in the West Midlands including its Stourbridge head office, and a single outlier in Wishaw, south east of Glasgow.

The company generated a net £487k cash to end 2014 with net funds of £1.86m (2013: £1.37m).
