EBITDA jumped 27 per cent at Yorkshire mattress manufacturer Highgate Beds despite flat sales in the year to end August.


The Dewsbury producer made £263k on sales of £6.1m, helped by a 50 basis point rise in gross margin to 28.3 per cent and a small fall in admin costs.


Profits at the pre-tax line reached £90k, more than double the prior year and a further improvement on 2011–12, when it lost £214k on sales of £5.8m.


Earnings were the strongest since 2008–09, when it made £317k before tax on sales of £9.9m.
