Furniture test house FIRA International has announced the dates for furniture flammability training courses at its Hertfordshire HQ.

The Stevenage organisation has lined up courses for Wednesday 8th July and Thursday 20th August, aimed at furniture suppliers, manufacturers, importers, retail buyers and technologists.

“Since the BBC investigation into non-compliant products on sale in the UK, we have seen the industry take swift action,” said standards and regulatory manager Tristine Hargreaves.

The BBC’s Fake Britain programme — broadcast in January 2014 — followed Trading Standards officers as they seized non-compliant upholstery and mattresses from independents in the East Midlands and a number of national retailers.

“Knowing the questions to ask a supplier and how to identify potential issues will help to mitigate risk to your business and help build your due diligence,” Ms Hargreaves added.
