North West mattress and foam supplier Comfortex posted stronger profits despite a slight dip in sales in the year to end December.

The Oldham based company — which produces mattresses, seating, and specialist foam products for the medical, retail, contract and nursery markets — made £1.1m at the pre-tax line (2013: £1m).

Revenue dipped 2.2 per cent to £10m for the firm, which is among the UK's largest independent foam converters and also supplies a range of products to the upholstery and leisure sectors.

The company generated a net £1.2m cash from operations (2013: £867k) and cut year-end net debt to £421k (2013: £615k).

Comfortex is privately owned, though healthcare group ArjoHuntleigh — one of its major customers — holds a minority stake through an investment company.
