excelExhibitions company UBM EMEA Built Environment says it plans to focus on niche events and has closed its May Design Series show.

The London based exhibition launched in 2013, but last month’s edition — the third — will be the last, with the show organiser saying it is responding to exhibitor and visitor feedback.

UBM last year announced it was to cancel its Interiors UK event at the NEC in January with the aim of migrating exhibitors to the ExCel based spring exhibition.

January 2014 was the last edition of that event, though the NEC still hosted a furniture exhibition at the start of 2015, with the January Furniture Show being launched by the organisers of the Manchester Furniture Show with a similar timeline.

In a statement, media and events firm UBM said: “Relevant exhibitors will instead be offered an opportunity within kbb Birmingham or London, Sleep, Decorex or Ecobuild. [We] will continue to organise an annual kitchen, bedroom and bathroom exhibition alternating between Birmingham and London.”

Portfolio director Alison Jackson said: “We’ve decided to cancel May Design Series and put our efforts into our niche market events as our exhibitors and visitors have informed us they want a more curated experience.

“In a world of information overload, our visitors need a focused event that exhibits the best and new product and thinking within that sector and takes a deep dive into the future of the sector, engaging with new ideas and trends and networking opportunities within that niche of the industry.”
