Flokk, the office seating and furniture conglomerate with a UK base in Yorkshire, has agreed to buy US-based Via Seating from Groupe Lacasse, the North American furniture manufacturer.

The deal — terms of which were not disclosed — means Oslo, Norway headquartered Flokk will now generate annual sales of about 5 billion krone (£360m), with about 40 percent of that coming from the US.

"Via Seating’s strength within the executive and task chair segment, combined with key characteristics such as design, quality, ergonomics and sustainability, fits perfectly with our group strategy," said Henning Karlsrud, Flokk group CEO.

Founded in 1987 by Danish-born Thomas Sorensen, Via Seating employs 150 and is headquartered at Reno, Nevada, where its products are manufactured.

"Building on the success of our acquisitions of 9to5 Seating and Stylex in the US, we are thrilled to add Via Seating to our brand portfolio," Mr Karlsrud added. "Alongside our Håg brand, this makes for a strong lineup in the US market."

Though based in Norway, Flokk has manufacturing facilities across five countries, including a UK unit at Mirfield in Yorkshire.
