A rise in the value of Vietnam-sourced shipments powered wood bedroom, living and dining furniture in January.

The value of goods from Vietnam climbed 12 percent to £13.4 million according to HMRC data compiled by The Furnishing Report.

That compared with softer 0.9 percent increase in the value of combined wood living, dining and bedroom cabinet imports from China.

The £30.9 million total from China remains comfortably ahead of any other import source for the respective categories.*

January's figures are at odds with full-year data for 2017, which saw Chinese wood furniture imports up 11 percent and Vietnamese — the second most important source by size — down 4.1 percent.
