Producer price inflation for UK-made furniture eased in May, according to the Office for National Statistics.

It said furniture factory gate prices were 1.2 per cent higher in the year to May, down 10 basis points from the 1.3 per cent figure returned in April.

The output price index for goods produced by all UK manufacturers fell 1.6 per cent last month, also down 10 basis points on April’s 1.7 per cent result.

Core factory gate prices — stripping out more volatile food, beverage, tobacco and petroleum products — rose 0.1 per cent in the year to May, unchanged for a third successive month

Falling input costs suggest manufacturers simply passed on their own lower costs, with the overall price of materials and fuels bought by UK manufacturers falling 12 per cent last month, down from a fall of 11 per cent in the year to April.
