Output at British furniture factories climbed sharply in April, according to new official statistics.

Turnover at UK plants reached £652.6m, up 9 per cent — or nearly £54m — on the same month a year ago.

ONS said furniture turnover for goods destined for the Home market rose 10 per cent to £616.5m, but that exports fell 7 per cent to £36.1m.
