Britain’s furniture manufacturing output continued to rise in May, but at a slower rate than had been the case in earlier months.

UK producers’ turnover totalled £605m for the month, up 0.8 per cent on May last year according to the Office for National Statistics.

Furniture destined for UK customers dipped 0.8 per cent to £563.2m, but export production climbed 30 per cent to £41.8m.

The numbers represent a slowdown in the year-to-date figures, with January to May manufacturers’ turnover up 8.8 per cent to £3.22bn against the first five months of 2014.
