Furniture and furnishings retailers enjoyed standout growth in the second quarter of 2015, according to the British Independent Retailers Association (bira).


Its quarterly survey returned an average of 2.4 per cent year-on-year growth across its membership base, but a much stronger performance from independents selling home furnishings.


The furniture, beds and flooring categories climbed 16 per cent against the second quarter of 2014, echoing official figures from the Office for National Statistics.


The ONS reported 16.2 per cent sales value growth for the furniture sector in Q2, with the category now up in seven consecutive quarters.
