parkFurnHome department store retail group Leekes has announced it has agreed to buy third generation retailer Park Furnishers. Terms were not immediately disclosed.

The acquisition of the Bristol based business is Leekes’ first major transaction since 2009, when it acquired Midlands furniture retailer Coles of Bilston.

Park Furnishers, which made £222,506 in 2014–15 on sales of £8.5m, adds to Leekes existing five-strong Wales, Midlands and West of England store portfolio.

Leekes managing director Emma Leeke said: "We have been looking for new opportunities to continue our expansion plans and we are delighted to have been able to reach agreement with the Coller family to purchase Park Furnishers.”

“We were attracted to the business, established by Len Coller in 1967 and developed with his son Deryn and grandsons Tim and James, as it was founded and run on the same strong guiding principles as ours of offering quality products at great prices. We intend to continue to trade under the Park Furnishers name which is also synonymous with offering an excellent level of service to its loyal and expanding customer base."

Park Furnishers' managing director Tim Coller said, "We have been impressed with the professionalism of the team from Leekes during our discussions and we are confident that our business is in safe hands.

“I would like to pay tribute to the staff at Park, many of whom have worked with us for many years and helped us grow our business during that time. I am confident that the business will continue this growth and develop further under the ownership of Leekes."
