DANISH furniture maker Carl Hansen & Son has acquired the business and intellectual property of compatriot manufacturer Søborg Møbler.

The acquisition — for undisclosed terms — follows the recent incorporation of classics from iconic designers Kaare Klint, Mogens Koch and Mogens Lassen into its core collection following its earlier buy of furniture maker Rud Rasmussen.

Søborg Møbler, based to the north of Copenhagen, owns the rights to creations from leading designers including Børge Mogensen and Knud Holscher, which will now be added to the Carl Hansen portfolio.

CEO Knud Erik Hansen said: "We feel a great responsibility for preserving the classic Danish designs and ensuring that they continue to be produced in Denmark.

With our future-proof production facilities, Carl Hansen & Son is today one of Europe’s most modern furniture makers. This year alone, we’re investing just over €13.5 million in machinery and buildings."
