Headlam, the UK's largest flooring wholesaler to the retail trade, has agreed to buy Dutch distributor Dersimo in a move that expands its presence in mainland Europe.

The Tamworth headquartered group will pay private shareholders €4.1 million for the western Netherlands based company in a deal that completed Friday (Mar. 2).

Dersimo, established in 1972 and until now family-owned, recorded pretax profits of around €400,000 on sales of €10.1 million in 2017. It employs 23 people and operates in both the residential and commercial sectors.

"The acquisition is earnings-enhancing and firmly in-line with the refocused acquisition strategy, providing an increased weighting in the commercial sector in the Netherlands where we were previously underweight," Headlam said in a statement.

The deal brings the number of overseas business units under Headlam ownership to four, and means it now owns 63 autonomously-run companies in all.

Headlam invested £31.9 million in acquisitions in 2017, buying Mitchell Carpets, McMillan Flooring Distributors and tile company Domus, the latter representing the lion's share of the total spend.
