One of the launch directors of fast-growing flooring retailer Tapi Carpets has left the business to pursue a new challenge.

Willem Tijink was headhunted from rival Carpetright as buying director ahead of Tapi's 2015 launch, and later took on the additional brief of retail development director last year.

In his three years at the chain, he was instrumental in the strategic decision to launch a mobile showroom concept in addition to its expanding store network and building its 20,000 Sku product roster.

In short order, Tapi has opened a slew of stores across the country, and is closing in on 100 branches nationwide having opened its 96th and 97th at Nottingham and Gateshead in the past month.

Before leaving to join Tapi, Mr Tijink was latterly head of buying and merchandising at Carpetright having spent more than a decade at the UK's largest flooring retailer.

Mr Tijink said he had decided to pursue new challenges and was keen to open discussions with employers in the UK and Europe.

It is not known if Tapi has or will appoint a replacement. In an emailed statement to The Furnishing Report, Tapi said it was its "policy not to comment on any matters of a personnel nature."
