Ball & Young, which supplies underlay used in the installation of new floorcoverings, said it absorbed the rising cost of raw materials last year.


As a result, profits at the Middleton based business declined 26 percent to £7.7 million at the pretax line.

That still represented a margin of more than 24 percent for the North West company, a sister company to Vita Cellular Foams (UK).

Sales, which were flat in 2016, declined by 6.6 percent to £31.9 million in the year to end December 2017.
