Headlam, Europe's largest floorcoverings distributor, has pinned falling underlying sales at its UK business on flaccid demand from its largest customer, and the weather.

UK like-for-like sales were down 6.3 percent year-on-year for the Tamworth headquartered group, whose residential customer base is largely made up of independent stores and carpet fitters.

It also said performance was affected by the adverse weather conditions experienced during February and March 2018, which reduced footfall to the company's customer base in the residential sector.

Acquisitions and its continental European business meant total four-month sales still gained on the comparable period, up 0.6 percent year-on-year.
