Headlam will introduce price increases next month in a new headwind for its UK customer base of independent floorcoverings retailers and fitters.

The Tamworth wholesale group — a major supplier to the independent carpet trade in the UK as well as big retailers such as ScS — blamed its own higher purchasing costs as carpet makers passed on raw material price inflation.

It said the UK price rises, which come into effect from September 1, will span 2.0 percent to 10 percent with an average increase of 3.0 percent.

Headlam announced the price increases as it revealed half-year numbers to end June, during which it completed two acquisitions (see related) which bolstered group revenue 1 percent to £337.5 million. UK like-for-likes fell 5.2 percent.

It has since added a third new business, North London wholesaler Ashmount, which was also chronicled in a trading update last month.

Half-year net profits declined 2.5 percent to £13.3 million.
