ScS has been given a gentle slap on the wrist by the advertising watchdog after Carpetright complained, saying its rival’s free carpet promotion was misleading.

The floorcoverings specialist challenged ScS adverts promising a free carpet with every sofa over £399.

The ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) upheld the complaint, agreeing that in two examples sofa prices had been increased from the established price — albeit only fractionally — and that the free carpet claim couldn’t be justified.

However, in six other examples, the ASA agreed with ScS, and said it was fair to deem the carpet free when sold alongside those sofas.

A second complaint — also by Carpetright — regarding “was” pricing was not upheld by the ASA. Full details of its findings and the complaints are available via this link.
