Imports from further afield were up strongly, with non-EU carpet and rug imports up 9.6 per cent to £52.7m, with Turkey, China and India all seeing growth against last year.

Carpet exports out of Britain declined 12 per cent to £50.9m, with a drop in goods sent to the Netherlands (-36pc to £7.6m) the main drag on performance.
