Revenue and profits were up strongly for the privately owned John Cotton Group in the year to 1st March.

Sales climbed 16.6 per cent to £160.5m in 2014–15, mainly as a result of higher UK sales after successful tenders for contracts with major retailers, as well as strong sales of Slumberdown branded products.

Of the total, UK sales rose 19.2 per cent to £141.7m.

Mirfield headquartered John Cotton Group operates diversified divisions which includes supplying fillings to bed and upholstery manufacturers as well as filled bedding to the retail trade.

Gross margin increased 240 basis points to 17.3 per cent, helped by favourable currency exchange and customers trading up to higher value products, while pre-tax earnings reached a shade under £10m, up 41.3 per cent on the previous year.
