The company behind retail chains Yorkshire Linen Co and Linen Warehouse posted smaller profits amid ‘very difficult trading conditions’ in the year to end March.

New accounts show pre-tax earnings dropped 24.1 per cent to £457,061 for the owner-managed company, which trades from 40 stores, including 32 across northern England and eight in southern Spain.

Sales fell 0.7 per cent to £12.8m having fallen 3.1 per cent the previous year with directors saying they were satisfied in light of trading conditions.

Yorkshire Linen Co and Linen Warehouse sell duvet covers, bedding, curtains cushions, mattress toppers as well as kitchen and dining textiles.

The company behind the brands is The Towel Rail Ltd, which also owns Darley Mill, a retail destination and restaurant sited in a 17th Century corn mill on the banks of the River Nidd in Nidderdale.
