Revenue climbed at Gloucestershire home accents distributor Parlane International with stronger sales to independent retailers

Sales at the Bourton-on-the-Water company increased by 5.1 per cent to £7m in the year to end December, despite a drop in demand from major chains.

The privately owned company said sales to independent retail stockists lifted by 5.5 per cent but that sales to large UK retailers were down 8.9 per cent as they continued to source more product direct from the Far East.

Parlane said it had success too with international customers, with Australia, New Zealand and Mediterranean markets among those delivering growth.

Pre-tax profits for the firm — whose circa 4,000 skus span everything from glassware, wall art, candles, vases and Christmas decorations through to artificial flowers, kitchenware and furniture — climbed by 47 per cent to £301k.
