highStreeThe number of industry insolvencies dropped by almost a third in January, reflecting market tailwinds across the furniture, flooring and furnishings sectors.


Just 22 companies were placed into administration or liquidation last month, down 29 per cent on the 31 that entered insolvency in January 2015.


The data — compiled by The Furnishing Report from its Insolvency & Legals column — shows three retailers were placed into the hands of insolvency practitioners in January, down from eight last year.


Seven manufacturers (2015: 3) went insolvent, with two wholesalers (2014: 5), one interior design firm (2015: 1), five kitchens and fitted furniture companies (2015: 7) and four floorcoverings suppliers (2015: 7) making up the list.
