GaryPitchfordDFSBuying director Gary Pitchford has left the UK’s largest upholstery retailer DFS with immediate effect after 16 years with the business.

The sofas and furniture chain confirmed Mr Pitchford’s departure to The Furnishing Report, saying both the decision and the timing were mutually agreed. He is understood to have left last week.

In a statement, DFS said: “We’d like to thank Gary for his years of service, particularly for helping to develop our product offer, pricing and for growing our merchandising capabilities. We wish him every success for the future.”

The reason for Mr Pitchford’s departure has not been released and it is not known if he is leaving to go to a new role. The Furnishing Report left a voicemail on Mr Pitchford’s mobile phone yesterday afternoon (11th Jan, 2016).

Gary Pitchford  — who joined DFS in 1999 — had responsibility for sourcing, price negotiations, ranging and design as well as heading up DFS' in house design and development teams for its fully owned manufacturing facilities.

A DFS spokesman said that a successor was not yet in place, adding that the group was examining the best structure for its buying function.
