National home retailer Dunelm is looking to open a mammoth distribution centre in the North West of England.

The chain — which last week said it was looking to grow its furniture category as part of a drive to increase sales by half — is under offer on a 460,000sqft warehouse at Middlewich in Cheshire.

The DC was formerly operated by Tesco, which vacated the site in 2013. Dunelm hopes to employ around 100 people there, and says its business has become too large to sustain its existing single site warehouse operation.

Dunelm initially operated a warehouse in Burton-upon-Trent before moving to its current Stoke-on-Trent facility in 2006.
