hslDewsburyYorkshire based furniture vertical HSL has taken its store total past 40 and hired a former partner at one of the world’s largest private equity groups to its board.

Ken Beaty — a 20-year veteran at 3i Group — has taken a non-executive directorship at the fast-growing adjustable furniture retail specialist, which also has its own extensive manufacturing operation.

Mr Beaty has also held senior posts within the manufacturing and retail industries — including at fashion chain Hobbs. He is currently also chairman at computer games developer Sumo Digital.

He will assist the HSL board with managing its rapid growth, including helping with strategic planning, senior team development and corporate governance.

Privately owned HSL — which is expected to post a big increase on its 2013 top line of £26.1m when it files numbers for 2014 — took store numbers past 40 with the opening of its Amsterdam Way showroom in Norwich in the past week.

Its 41st store will open early March at Arlington Way in Shrewsbury. Sales have more than doubled since 2010.
