Furniture conglomerate Steinhoff says it has committed €65m — about £48m — refurbishing its Kika and Leiner stores business in Central Europe.


Steinhoff acquired the Austria based Kika Leiner group — which has sales in the order of €1bn — in 2013. The firm says the majority of the circa 50 stores were earmarked for the modernisation programme.


Since it bought Kika Leiner, Steinhoff says it has expanded its range offer by adding electrical departments in around a fifth of its stores as well developing instore restaurants.


These have resulted in around 400 new jobs being created and total workforce across the Kika Leiner group increasing to 7,500.
