Home shopping group Findel has recorded its first half year profit in six years after persuading existing customers to part with more of their cash.

The retailer — whose furniture and homeware offer spans everything from sofas and dining sets to home accents — posted underlying pre-tax earnings of £1.5m as group sales inched up 0.2 per cent £244.1m.

Sales in its Express Gifts division — which runs its home goods websites Ace and Studio — climbed 6.3 per cent to £129.7m. Findel said the majority of its growth came from existing customers, though it did increase total shopper numbers by 4 per cent.

Findel’s other group businesses include Kleeneze, which saw sales fall by almost a quarter to £17.9m, sportswear business Kitbag, which grew revenue 7.6 per cent to £34m, and an Education Supplies division, which was down 5 per cent to £60.9m.
