British buyers spent less on tufted and woven carpets in November, with overall imports only keeping pace with previous years thanks to Far East sourced rugs.


The UK imported £5.8m from India, up nearly 5 per cent on 2013, bringing total floorcoverings imports to £64.3m, figures from HM Revenue & Customs suggest.


Imports from Belgium rose 9.7 per cent to £29.3m, but fell 15 per cent from the Netherlands to £17m.


Flooring exports from the UK were down 11.7 per cent to £17.3m.
