Visitor numbers jumped at an increasingly international IMM Cologne in a sign the global furniture trade is ready to invest in new products.

The January 15–21, 2018 event attracted 125,000 people this year, organisers said, around 5,000 up on the reported figure for the last comparable event.

Visitors were more international than in previous years, with 50 percent arriving from outside Germany, up from 46 percent last year.

IMM vies with Milan — held in the spring — for the crown of mainland Europe's most important international furniture trade event.

Organisers cited higher numbers from Spain (+31pc), Belgium (+16pc), France (+11pc), Eastern Europe (+54pc) and Russia (+69pc) while Asian attendance was up by half, driven by China (+82pc) and Japan (+63pc).
