20,000 attended the January Furniture Show
Visitors numbers at last month's January Furniture Show matched year-earlier attendance as the industry turned out in force for the four-day event.

About 20,000 buyers made the trip to Birmingham's NEC between January 21–24, in line with the 2017 edition despite snow hindering attendance on the opening day.

The show's hosted buyers' scheme had an increase in takeup of over 20 percent compared to the previous year, organisers said in a press release, which also included the following feedback from exhibitors and visitors.

Bruce Bell, marketing director at Gallery Direct, said: "This has been a record breaking show for us, we pay great attention to the design, materials and end-use of our products and introduced over 630 new ones at JFS this year. There is an optimism for contemporary design and the reaction we have had has been superb, we are delighted."

Baker Furniture md Mark Callaghan said: "Every year the show gets better for us; we like the rebranding and we have seen all of the customers we wanted to see. All of our new ranges sold very well, it's a great show."

Retailer William Cole of William & Sons said "We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent at the show enabling us to review our current product offering and source improvements to it. We only wished it had been on for a few more days as we simply just ran out of time with so much to see."

January Furniture Show event director Cleere Scamell said: "In the end it doesn't matter what we think, it's about the exhibitors and the visitors, but on all four days wherever I was in the five halls I heard a buzz, and that means it was good. We are a small team with a determination to deliver the best event possible, hearing that buzz everywhere told me we had succeeded."

January Furniture Show 2019 takes place January 20–23 at the NEC.
